Cleaning Your Floor After a Spring Flood

Posted on February 03, 2014 0 Comments

During the spring season, unexpected hard rains and thunderstorms can cause flooding in basements. If you have a Nature Stone floor, you are lucky! Cleaning up after a flood in a basement that has an epoxy stone floor is easy to do and requires no heavy lifting or floor replacement. Remember these tips if you are cleaning up after a spring flood:

  • Get the water out. If you have experienced basement flooding, the first step is to get the water out of the basement. For small amounts of water, the majority of the water will likely drain out through the hydrostatic port technology built into your Nature Stone floor. Larger floods may require pumping out the area.

  • Move items off of the floor. If you have put rugs on the floor or have boxes of items in the area, remove them to allow the floor to fully dry. If there is any debris or mud, remove that as well.

  • Bring in some fans. To help the floor dry more quickly, bring in some fans once it is safe to do so. The more air circulation you can achieve, the more quickly the floor will completely dry.

  • Go through a regular cleaning process. Start by sweeping the floor of any remaining debris and follow up with a quick vacuum. Finish your cleaning process with a mild detergent mopping. Because of the additives in Nature Stone epoxy and the hydrostatic ports which will continue to allow the floor to breath, there should be no issue with mold or mildew growth.

As you can see, with a Nature Stone floor, there is no need for an extensive cleaning process if you are the victim of spring flooding. In fact, you can simply move wet items off of the floor, clean up any debris and clean the floor as you normally would. Because of the innovative design of our epoxy stone floors, your floor will easily withstand any level of flooding.
