Spring into a New Season with a Fresh Topcoat

Posted on February 03, 2014 0 Comments

Long winters can wreak havoc on nearly every surface of your home. If you are looking for a way to protect your Nature Stone floor, then consider giving your floor a fresh topcoat application during the spring months. Topcoating your floor in the spring is the ideal time to perform this service, as your family won’t be tracking in the same amount of grime they do in the winter time.

Adding a new layer of topcoat to your beautiful epoxy stone floor will provide the surface with extra protection from spills and dirt tracked into your home or office. The process is easy. The first step is to carefully measure the amount of floor that needs to be covered with a topcoat sealer. By measuring the length and width of the floor and multiplying those numbers together, you can quickly figure out the square footage which will assist you in purchasing the correct amount of topcoat.

Your next decision will be what type of topcoat to use. At Nature Stone, we offer both a standard topcoat and a heavy duty topcoat with a UV protectant included. The heavy duty topcoat is ideal for areas that are either exposed to a lot of light, such as a sunroom, or areas that see a lot of foot traffic, such as a hallway or entry area. To make your application easier, you may want to consider using one of our custom application kits. Having all the tools right at hand will make your job that much easier.

A spring topcoating job will require a good cleaning prior to applying the topcoat. We recommend sweeping the floor and then following up with a heavy duty vacuum to remove any final debris. Once the cleaning is complete, then you can begin the topcoating process. It is critical to remember that only a thin layer of topcoat is needed. Pour a small amount of topcoating in to the tray and then cover the roller, making sure eliminate as much of the excess as possible. Completely cover the floor and then give the floor plenty of time to dry.

Spring is a great time to topcoat your epoxy stone floor. By ordering the right amount of topcoat, preparing the floor correctly and using a thin layer of topcoat, you will love the way your floor looks. If you have questions, feel free to contact Nature Stone today!
